Cautions
Do not consume foods and beverages that contain high amounts of a substance called tyramine (this can be found in aged cheeses and tap beer) while on Emsam 9 mg/24 hr or 12 mg/24 hr, and for 2 weeks after stopping Emsam 9 mg/24 hr and 12 mg/24 hr. Consuming these foods and beverages can lead to a sudden, large increase in blood pressure called “hypertensive crisis”, which is a serious and potentially life-threatening medical condition. Ask your healthcare professional or see the Emsam Medication Guide for a complete list of foods and beverages that must be avoided while on Emsam 9 mg/24 hr or 12 mg/24 hr. Avoid consuming alcoholic beverages while using Emsam.
